Trombone Grande

These days, the trombone can rarely be heard as a solo instrument. It has, however, a long and important history. It is difficult to establish when and where the trombone was invented. It is certain, however, that the instrument could be enjoyed at the European royal courts at the beginning of the 16th century. From the middle of the 18th century onwards, trombones were replaced by newer brass wind instruments like the French horn. On ‘Trombone Grande’ (Accent), Wim Becu presents trombone music from around 1600. The bass trombone is the focal point, and together with the alto and tenor trombone it interacts with instruments like the harp, the cornetto or the theorbo. This results in a remarkable myriad of sounds.
