Baroque Consolation
Sacred Arias with violin, trombone and organ at the Imperial Viennese Court
The Habsburg dynasty was one of the most powerful monarchies in Europe from the early 13th till the early 19th centuries. It also held considerable cultural and artistic power and as such it was able to engage the best musicians and composers. Nevertheless, musical life at the Imperial Viennese Court faced a strong Italian influence. The positions of Court Chapel Master and Court Composer were still dominated by Italians. This cd introduces you to music by composers like Conti and both Ziani’s.
The cd presents eight arias, one instrumental ‘Sonata à tre’ and four compositions (two fantasias and two toccatas) for solo organ.
The divine soprano of Sarah Van Mol brings great charm to this recording. The other musicians are Bart Rodyns (organ) the organ solo pieces were recorded on the “Silver Organ” in the Chruch of Onze Lieve Vrouw at Broechem , Veronika Skuplik and Maria Carrasco (baroque violin) and Wim Becu (baroque trombone).
