Lambert De Sayve (2007)
Lambert De Sayve
Only few people know that at the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century, a Flemish composer was partly responsible for the image of Austrian clerical music. Both in the Abbey of Melk, which looked completely different back then, as the beautiful Baroque building splendour of Prandtauer would not be added till 1702-1736, and at the Imperial court in Vienna, Lambert de Sayve composed beautiful music, integrating Franco-Flemish polyphony with Italian polychoral music.
This cd pays tribute to that glorious music. In their performance, Capilla Flamenca and Oltremontano embrace the majestic aura of the compositions. The vocal pieces, where especially the sixteen voice polyphony liturgy 'Dominus Regnavit' constitutes a master piece, are alternated by canzones and sonatas for ecclesiastical use by Gabrieli and Priuli.
